Rainbow at TBKLocated in Fairbanks, Alaska, Trail Breaker Kennel was established in 1980 by the husband and wife team of David Monson and Susan Butcher (four-time Iditarod winner). Both were avid mushers and longed to fulfill their dream of mushing full-time. Originally, Trail Breaker Kennel was exclusively a racing kennel, but in 1993, David and Susan decided to share their love of sled dogs with the public and began operating tours.

Presently, Trail Breaker Kennel is home to about 60 Alaskan huskies. During the winter months, these dogs train for, and participate in, various races around Alaska; in the summer, they happily take a break from their intense training to strut their stuff for the 150,000+ tourists that visit the property each year.

A popular way to visit us is via the Riverboat Discovery tour, which arrives at our property on the banks of the Chena River. From the riverboat, guests get an excellent view of the kennel and get to watch a racing team in action as it tows David around our property.
